FAQs

Are parents allowed in lessons?

If your child is particularly shy or anxious, you’re welcome to sit in for the first couple lessons. However I find that most students have an easier time learning without a parent present.

What happens if a lesson is missed due to weather?

Weather is totally out of our control. If we get dumped with snow, for instance, my road often isn’t plowed and my driveway is difficult to navigate. In circumstances like this, I will cancel lessons for the safety of students.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cheques and e-transfer. More payment information can be found here.

Why is there a 4 week trial period?

It’s important to me that my students enjoy their lessons. Those first four weeks allow me to get a sense of a student’s personality and whether I’d be a good fit for them or not. I will be in touch after those four weeks with any notes or potential concerns for future lessons.

Do you follow a particular system?

I primarily work with the Wunderkeys book series. These books range from preschool to elementary levels and offer a variety of learning methods, as well as cute comics to follow along with. I will also use Faber Piano Adventure books as a secondary resource.

Do you provide piano books for students?

I don’t provide books for students at this time, however they can be found for purchase on Amazon.

Do you travel to people’s homes to teach?

Unfortunately I do not offer this service.

Do you teach adults?

I do offer lessons for adult beginners. It’s never too late to pick up a new hobby!

Do you have recitals?

Not at this time, but I am considering a relaxed sort of “coffee-shop recital” in the future.

Do we have to have a piano?

YES, you absolutely must have a piano at home. You don’t necessarily have to own one, however—you can rent pianos and keyboards from music stores. Please don’t use kiddie keyboards found at toy stores, those are not real instruments and wouldn’t be suitable for piano lessons.
